Letter from the President

First, let me welcome everyone back from our summer vacation to what looks to be another great year for the Purchase Area ASSE Chapter. Many of you I know, but there are still several members who may not know me, so let me take a minute to introduce myself.

I am from Hopkinsville, KY and graduated from Murray State in 2003 with my Bachelors in OSHA. I worked for Granite Construction Company in Florida right out of school. I then took the position of Safety Coordinator for the City of Hopkinsville and have been here for almost 5 years. I recently received my CSP.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to start making plans to attend our monthly chapter meetings. These are tentatively scheduled for the third Monday of each month at 11:30am. Our first meeting will be on October 20th, 2008 at the Kentucky Dam Village Lodge. The topic will be Cell Phone Safety presented by Brian Dickey of Kentucky League of Cities. Not only are these monthly meetings informative and interesting, they are a great opportunity to network with other safety professionals from around the area.

Another great networking opportunity is our annual Golf Scramble and PDC. This year it was held at Kentucky Dam Village and was a great success. We had 27 players and raised around $3000, which will go to scholarships for Murray State OSHA students and money for our chapter.

I think everyone had a great time golfing and an informative afternoon at our PDC which included topics about fall protection and Hand PPE. Thanks to all who attended. Next year we want to double our number of players so please go ahead and make plans to attend. Also, I would like to thank the Murray State students who came out to help and play.

It is one of my goals as president to not only to get more members for our chapter, but to bring our membership closer together. Please don’t hesitate to come to our board meetings with new ideas or questions you may have. Executive Board meetings start at 10:45am before the monthly chapter meeting. If you can’t make the meetings but want to give your input, please email one of our board members.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this year. Please come out and get involved and let’s make our chapter even stronger.

Sincerely,

Ben Cook, Purchase Area ASSE President
